The Golden Visa, associated with a competitive tax regime (embodied in the status of non-habitual resident) and a country with an excellent climate, security, gastronomy and quality of life, has put Portugal in the sights of investors from all over the world, who, suddenly, saw an excellent opportunity in terms of investment. For now, with regard to the Golden Visa program, nothing changes because the Government has already informed that taking into account the effects of COVID-19, the program will not be changed. In short, the benefits remain the same: through this program, it is possible to apply for Portuguese temporary residence and, consequently, move freely in the 26 countries of the Schengen Area. It is also possible to bring the whole family together, without having to repeat the investment.
It is not necessary to obtain a visa to enter Portugal. It is not necessary to obtain a visa to travel in Europe (Schengen Area). Living and working in Portugal, even if resident in a different country. Extremely low minimum stay periods. Permanent residence. Residence extended to relatives.
The applicant must observe a minimum mandatory period of stay in Portugal, having to remain in the country for at least 7 days in the first year and 14 days in the following two years.
The applicant will still have to make an investment, which, in short, can mean the acquisition of a property for living purposes with a value of at least € 500,000 (if it is new) or € 350,000 (if it is more than 30 years old or located in an urban rehabilitation area), located in the Azores and Madeira or in the interior municipalities of continental Portugal, a capital transfer equal to or greater than € 1,500,000 or the creation of ten jobs.
The applicant cannot have been convicted of a serious crime. After five years, the applicant and his family will be able to apply for Portuguese nationality or permanent residence, having for the purpose to pass the Portuguese language test.
